Rents O asked:
I have created an website and i am actually making some
false adverts on classified just to bring people over to my webpage. I know its not a good thing, but i am not actually selling anything so is it illegal? just wondering.
Yea i am actually advertising that i am selling some stuff but i am really not selling them. But i am not really selling them so there is no money involved so it’s not really an illegal activity is it? i don’t know. i know it’s a bad thing but it can bring some traffic to my blog which has similar contents to the specific item that i am pretending to be selling.. i thought it was a good idea but now i am worried.

It depends on what the adverts actually say.
But even if it is legal, it’s kind of pointless and lame. Why would you want everyone to feel angry and tricked? If you aren’t selling anything, but are trying to get people to read a blog or see something you think has value, why would you want them to come to that under false pretenses and ticked off?
Really, I don’t see the point.

I’m not sure… but if you’re advertising that you’re selling something, and then don’t deliver, that could be a problem. Especially if you’re getting any money from them visiting your site.

It depends on what you claim to be selling. Making a website offering to sell iPhones for $100 each (when you have no iPhones in stock) would likely be a violation of your state’s commerce laws (and you could find yourself facing civil or criminal penalties.)
On the other hand, if it is obvious that your website is a hoax designed to attract attention without selling a real product (for example, Bonzai Kittens), then you would not be breaking any laws. Of course, if you do such a thing, prepare for the onslaught of nasty emails and hacker attacks from people who do not find your hoax very funny.
