Gfed asked:

I have a ton of these lessons and i can do some of them but math isnt my strong suit.

Estimating with Percent

For the first three questions, choose the best estimate. State or select the letter of the correct answer.

1) 12 out of 35
https://virtuallearningacademy.net/vla/LessonDisplay/Lesson2835/Question76205/PreAlg_L10_01.gif

2) 25% of 63
a.) 13
b.) 14
c,) 15
d.) 16

3) 124% of 41
a.) 30
b.) 40
c.) 50
d.) 60

4) Which fraction could be used to determine a quick estimate for 76% of a number?
a.) 1/2
b.) 3/4
c.) 2/3
d.) 1/10

5) Which fraction could be used to determine a quick estimate for 0.8% of a number?
a.) 1/100
b.) 4/5
c.) 1/2
d.) 1/10

6) Which mixed fraction could be used to determine a quick estimate for 249% of a number?
a.) 2 1/3
b.) 2 7/8
c.) 2 1/2
d.) 2 3/4

Percent Equations

For the next eleven questions, solve each problem by using the percent equation.

7) What percent of 80 is 30?

8) Twenty percent of what number is 75?

9) Thirty-eight percent of 50 is what number?

10) Find 180% of 95.

11) Three hundred sixty is what percent of 270?

12) Find 5.75% of 300

13) What percent of 40 is 25?

14) Eighty-five is 40% of what number?

15) Twelve is 2.5% of what number?

16) What is 50% of 72?

17) Find 85% of 920.

Discounts

For the next three questions, find the amount of discount to the nearest cent.

18) $49.99 shoes, 30% off

19) $2,499.00 HDTV, 15% off

20) $15.00 t-shirt, 25% off

Simple Interest

For the next three questions, calculate the interest to the nearest cent.

21) $325 at 7.5% for 2 years

22) $949 at 12.25% for 3.5 years

23) $5,200 at 13.5% for 18 months

Commission

24) Jake is employed by Don’s Auto Sales and earns 4% commission on each car that he sells. If Jake sold a car for $6,700, how much commission will he earn?

For the next three problems, refer to the following scenario: A jewelry store marks up diamond sales 50%. A diamond ring is priced $2,400 (customer’s price).

25) Determine the wholesale price (jewelry store’s cost) of the ring. (Hint: Since the ring is marked up 50%, the customer’s price is all of the jeweler’s price (100%) plus the 50% markup. Therefore, calculate 150% of what number is $2400.)

26) Calculate the commission a sales associate would earn if he were paid 5% commission on the retail price (customer’s price) of the ring.

27) What is the store’s profit on the ring? Consider the store’s cost of the ring and also the commission paid to the sales associate. Explain how you determined the profit. (You may write a math statement to show the solution for the profit.)

Percent Change

For the next five questions, calculate the percent of change. State whether each percent of change is an increase or a decrease, and then state the percent of change. Round the answers to the nearest whole percent.

28) original temperature: 15 degrees C; new temperature: 12 degrees C

29) original price: $40.00; new price: $55.00

30) original population: 525 people; current population: 661 people

31) last year’s points: 118 points; this year’s points: 51 points

32) original weight: 197 pounds; current weight: 140 pounds

Sales Tax

33) Bonnie bought two X-Box games, one priced at $35.00 and the other at $50.00. Sales tax on her purchase was 7%. How much change should she have received if she paid with a $100 bill?

34) A digital camera is on sale for 20% off the regular price of $599. After the price reduction, a 6.5% sales tax is added. How much will the customer pay?

Review

35) The entire circle shown below represents a total of 2,675 radios sold. Of the following, which is the best approximation of the number of radios represented by the shaded sector of the circle?
https://virtuallearningacademy.net/vla/LessonDisplay/Lesson2835/Question76255/PreAlg_L10_37.gif
a.) 275
b.) 280
c) 285
d.) 290

36) A child’s bicycle, which originally costs $90, is on sale for 10% off. State the letter of the correct answer that is NOT appropriate for calculating the amount of discount.

37) The graph below shows the results of a recent survey of the high school presidential election. The students were asked to choose their favorite candidate. About how many students were surveyed if 45 of them were undecided?

What would they call a profession where writing and graphic design are combined?

Higher Education (University +) 2 Comments »
Enigma asked:

I have a Bachelors degree in English but to continue, my heart is not only on writing but graphic or visual communication, such as backgrounds and layouts for brochures and ads, photo touch ups, and even designing web pages. I always thought that enhancing print with visual aids would be worthwhile.

Is there a particular area for this, would it be classified under Communication Arts or Multimedia design? And is it possible to double major in graduate school?

Say if I had 1,000 or so little travel pillows… just for instance… What is a good way to sell them, and what price do you suggest? -No, I didn’t steal them!

Also, why in the @#$4 is “Search Engine Optimization” my only option available to classify this question under “Advertising and Marketing?”

Looking for online marketplaces BESIDES eBay?

Small Business 1 Comment »
missusjonz asked:

Hey, everyone. I’ve been doing some research into doing some online sales of my jewelry, collectibles, gently used designer children’s clothes, and vintage adult clothing.

Besides eBay, does anyone know of good online marketplaces, especially ones with any or all of these features:

**free or inexpensive to post items

**offers sellers a storefront set-up as well as individual item listings

**appears to be popular/well-established

**looks professional, not just a no-frills classified ad listing like
Craigslist

I have come across two: eCrater & Ruby Lane. Let me know if you have any experience with either one.

Thanks for any input you may have. . . I’m perhaps not the most
proficient of internet searchers, and fear I’m missing useful info by just Googling. Also, personal anecdotes/feedback on sites from “regular joes” with no personal stake in referring me to a site (that would be YOU GUYS) is always helpful & welcome.

Thanks, guys!

Does anyone out there know to raise funds without any startup materials of cost. Or does anyone out there know of any online resources that offer free materials to help raise funds.
Please include URLs and specific details.
Also does anyone out there also know how to get large free advertising other than submitting to free classified sites.
